Personality: Kaylie is generally an outgoing person who is now trying her best to be optimistic. She's faced her share of problems and hurdles in life, and is now trying to turn over a new leaf. She enjoys to laugh and have fun, and is extremely loyal to those closest to her. It sometimes take a while for her to truly trust someone, but when she does you've found a friend for life. Despite everything the most important thing to her is her daughter, and she would do anything for her.
Past: Kaylie Nelson was born in Austin, Texas to a single mother, Danielle Nelson. Danielle was only sixteen at the time, and didn't realize how hard it would be to raise a baby on her own. After struggling for the first few months, Danielle decided that it wouldn't be possible to care for her newborn, and signed over her parental rights. Kaylie was then raised by her maternal grandmother.
At a young age, Kaylie's grandmother introduced her to art and she found a passion in it. In drawing, photography, poetry-- any way that she could express herself. Throughout high school she took as many different courses pertaining to art as she could, and decided that when she began college that it would be her major.
Her senior year in high school, Kaylie endured a horrible event. She was raped by a boy that she considered a close friend at a party, and six weeks later found out that she was pregnant. Thoughts of abortion and adoption had crossed the eighteen year old's mind, but ultimately she kept the baby, want it to grow up with her mother-- not a substitute for a mother as she had. Kaylie grew uncomfortable around men, but has slowly opened up over the past couple years.
Living off campus, she attends the University of Miami, sharing a one bedroom apartment with her two year old daugher, Lindsey.
x Sample RP x: Deep within Aiden an inner battle was surging. Though to Aiden being torn down the middle was becoming a feeling that was more and more familiar. It wasn’t something that Aiden enjoyed, a silent contradiction of himself, and yet he found himself doing it more and more. With his writing, and even more so with the beautiful Niki Lawrence. And so as Aiden sat on the bench in the deserted park, he looked down at his lyrical notebook, torn between whether to keep it closed as it had been since his grandfather’s death, or whether it was time to take that risk of reopening old wounds, and read the familiar lyrics that he’d written.
He still didn’t know, though, and his fingers continued their slow movement across the marble detailed cover. This familiar feeling was one that he hated. Why couldn’t he just know what to do and go with that action without any resistance within himself?
Aiden was perfectly aware of the fact that he was no longer thinking about just his music and the lyrical notebook that he’d brought with him. He was thinking about Niki. So many times he’d been tempted to call her and apologize for shutting her out-- but every time that he’d picked the phone up off of its cradle, he’d replaced it before anyone answered. But why had he done that? Niki wouldn’t have pushed him away despite how hard he’d pushed her away. She would’ve understood-- Niki always did. An audible sigh was heard as it escaped Aiden’s lips, mind still wandering back to why he hadn’t called Niki. He supposed it was because he wasn’t ready to get back into his music yet. And with her, she had intense passion for her music-- and the more they’d played together the more fuel he’d added to that passionate fire. And to be with Niki was to be with music, and Aiden didn’t know if he was ready for that…
But he was ready to have his best friend back.
“Aiden?”
His head moved so quickly at the familiar voice, that Aiden’s voice could almost be heard snapping upright. At first he opened his mouth and nothing came out, and in that silence he studied the girl that he’d missed so much-- the girl that he’d just been thinking about moments before. Aiden supposed that it was coincidental that his thoughts of Niki were interrupted by none other than herself. And so in that moment of uncomfortable silence he took in the blonde’s pretty features, her soft features, and the hands that twisted within her lap, as though unsure what to do.
“Yeah, it’s me, Nik.” Aiden’s words came out in an unrecognizable whisper, a softness and vulnerability to his tone that he’d only heard once before. At the winter formal, when he’d been pleading with Nik to be there for him, and admitting to her how scared he was. As a moment passed, his baby blue orbs sought out hers, searching them for any sign of anger. If he found it there he couldn’t say that he blamed her, really. He was supposed to be her best friend and he shut her out when things got tough.
And who was to say that something hadn’t happened and she’d needed him? Aiden supposed that was what made him feel most guilty of all. That he wasn’t there in the off chance that she truly and undoubtedly needed him. But she was strong and he knew that she could handle it, but her living arrangement was anything but idealistic and he knew that she’d been struggling with that for some time now. Aiden used to be the crutch in their relationship, the strong and unfaltering one. Yet in the face of tragedy and hardship he’d been the one to crumble into pieces.
The temptation to ask how her summer had been was there, to act like nothing what happened and to simply see how her life was. But Aiden couldn’t do that. He couldn’t pretend if he did indeed want to try to take that first step and get his best friend back. He needed to be honest with not only himself, but with Niki. And softly the simple words slipped past his lips, “are you mad?”
